Mistletoe
(Loranthaceae)
This parasite, is the
most legendary of plants. It was sacred to the ancient Druids
who cut it with a golden sickle (the symbol of the sun) and
caught it in a cloth to prevent it from touching the ground.
Mistletoe also grows on apple trees, oak and poplar, usually
being sown by birds.
People used to call the
mistletoe "all heal" and thought there was no
illness it could not cure. It is in fact poisonous,
particularly the berries. If you find It growing on your trees
remove it for it is a parasite and eventually will weaken the
tree and possible kill it.
