PET SAFE LAWN CARE - LAWN MAINTENANCE

Everyone wants a healthy green lawn, but all too often lawn chemicals i.e. herbicides, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, that endanger human and animal health and damage the environment, are used to control weeds, lawn disease and insects problems. There are alternatives. Natural organic lawn care products will produce healthy green lawns and, more importantly, natural, organic lawn care products pose no danger to human or animal health or to the environment.

Maintaining a healthy lawn involves good maintenance practices throughout the growing season. Proper mowing, fertilizing, irrigation and thatch control provide a dense, healthy, high-quality lawn with good  growth characteristics.

INSTALLING A NEW LAWN

Purchasing Seeding
Use a grass seed mixture with a combination of growth characteristics that is suitable for open areas, sunny spots, shady places and areas that need to withstand a lot of traffic. Avoid inexpensive old seed mixes.

Soil Preparation
Proper soil preparation soil can reduces the risk of lawn disease and prevent potential drainage and fertilization problems. Remove stones, roots, wood and other debris. Decaying debris can promote fungus diseases. Add three to five inches of good quality soil. Install drainage materials if necessary and grade the soil so that the lawn will be easier to mow. You are now ready to seed the lawn.

Apply Seed Treatment
Dilute CB-QGG Seed Treatment at a rate of 1 quart / 5 gal. water and apply to the seed bed at a rate of 2.5 gal. /1000 ft.2 This will accelerate seed germination and promote good root development and ensure proper establishment.

Applying Seed
When seeding by hand, scatter half the seeds while walking in one direction, and half at right angles to the first direction. This will ensure good coverage. Spread the seeds uniformly at a rate of three to five lbs. / 1000 ft.2. With the aid of a roller, bury the seed to a maximum depth of one half inch.  If a roller is not available, lightly cover spread peat moss, mulch or straw. This will prevent the seeds from becoming scattered and conserve moisture.

Fertilizing
When grass emerges, apply CBLC Lawn Fertilizer. See Instructions CLICK

Watering
Water the seeded area once or twice / day until the grass three inches in height.

Avoid walking on your newly seeded lawn and avoid mowing until the grass is 5 inches in height. Weeds will disappear with successive mowing.
