Zinc, manganese, copper, boron, iron and molybdenum are required by vegetables in very small amounts, and are accordingly termed ‘micronutrients’. Even though their requirements are low, micronutrients are just as essential for plant growth as N, P, K. A micronutrient deficiency can be just as limiting as major nutrient deficiency. In addition, excessive amounts of certain micronutrients i.e. boron, manganese, zinc and copper, can have adverse effects on vegetables. Simply put, , while a deficiency of a micronutrient can reduce yields, overuse or incorrect micronutrient application can be harmful to vegetable growth as well.
